Communities already have important networks of support – a variety of organizations - public schools, churches and other nonprofit organizations – with people and procedures in place to identify those in need of help and offer them assistance. Unfortunately, for thousands of individuals and families throughout Washington, that assistance is not enough.

It can be as simple as your income being one dollar too high to qualify for program benefits, not being disabled or out of work for long enough or even just having a few dollars left in savings that stops you from receiving assistance.

During our first year of operation, Sharing Security helped keep the lights on, the rent paid, the car running, gas in the tank and food in the cupboard for over a hundred Western Washington individuals and families who would have had nowhere else to turn.

We work within the community network of support. We ask the other members of that network to help us find those individuals and families who are in need of the kind of temporary assistance that Sharing Security provides. We ask them to help us make people aware that there is somewhere to turn.

By working with our community's other resources, we can work effectively and efficiently. During our first year in operation, Sharing Security spent less than $3,000.00 on operational and start-up expenses and provided in excess of $15,000.00 to program recipients. We operate with minimal staff (and no paid staff whatsoever) and make the most of every dollar that is donated to us. All operational expenses are paid for by the founders of the organization. No other private donations are used to pay for operational expenses.

We will expand our operations as our resources permit, eventually all across the State of Washington and throughout the United States. The need is greater than many would like to admit to or acknowledge but we have the energy, and we have the commitment. Please come join us as we make the dreams of Sharing Security into realities.
